This department deals with data collection, building data platforms to support data processing and sharing, and working with several businesses in Rakuten to provide insights from the data. The vision here is to build must-have technology differentiator to empower Rakuten group with data and AI.

Data Platform Division consists of three main sections, Rakuten Catalog Platform which provides enriched item/catalog data to improve search, recommendation etc. to realize much better User experience, Data Platform Section whose mission is to collect, manage, enrich, and provision company wide data with appropriate data governance, and Data Management Section which oversees the data platform as business side: planning, managing, and utilizing data. Core technologies being worked on here includes Java, Hadoop, Kafka, Hive, Apache Spark, Elastic Search, Google Cloud Platform, My SQL, Scala, Docker, etc.
