Rakuten uses AI technology to increase the efficacy of cancer treatment

Rakuten Institute of Technology works on the cure cancer initiative that is done in collaboration with Rakuten Medical Inc. which specializes in finding innovative ways in curing cancer using technology, namely photoimmunotherapy. The goal of this initiative is to analyze medical imaging data pertaining to immunohistochemistry biomarkers that classifies various cells as cancerous and non-cancerous, genomics data, proteomics or blood protein data, and combine them all to predict the efficacy of treatment for a patient before treatment administered. With this AI-enabled prediction, chances of success during human trails of the treatment will increase, thereby making a strong case for approval of the innovative treatment technique by several medical regulatory bodies. This initiative is a bold and ambitious move by Rakuten Institute of Technology to venture into the still nascent field of AI in cancer research to contribute to a social cause.
